Obituary of George Gaylord Trubey
The Trubey family wish to announce the passing of their father George “Gaylord” Trubey, at the blessed age of 93. He passed after many years on Hospice at the lovely residential care facility The Grand, in Simi Valley on November 21, 2023.
Gravesite service will be held December 5, 2023, 11:00 am at Assumption Cemetery, Simi Valley, CA.
Gaylord was born and raised on a farm in Colon, Michigan, March 5, 1930, to George William Trubey and Charlotte Mae Trubey (Ambs). He is preceded in birth and death by his older brothers Bill and David. He attended Fordson High School, learning the trade of aircraft maintenance by a female instructor. His love for all things aviation was reflected in the Piper Cub he built at the age of 19. Gaylord entered the US Navy and served from 1950-1954. His deployment on the Bay class escort aircraft carrier, USS Bairoko included the hydrogen bomb tests in the Bikini atolls, March of 1954. (Castle Bravo)
Gaylord met the love of his life, Rose Trubey (Kalapos) after returning home to Michigan from his honorable Navy service. Rose worked in the same Detroit building and was friends with Gaylord’s father, William ( a US Veterinarian). William said, “Son, have I got a gal for you.” They were married October 15, 1955 and have 5 children, Cindy (husband Joe), Bill, George (wife Liz), Marianne (husband Dave) and Frank (fiancé Rita). Seven grandchildren and four great grandchildren carry on Gaylord’s legacy.
Gaylord continued in aviation running his own maintenance business in both Simi Valley (at the old airport) and Van Nuys, CA. serving private aircraft owners and flight schools for over 30 years as GTA Aviation. He retired and loved to dapple with computers starting up a small business helping new users to the world of computers (remember the Commadore?)
The family would like to thank Rose Family Funeral Home, Faithful Hospice and The Grand, Residential Care Facility, all of Simi Valley for their kindness. The family also appreciates the ladies of the Vintage Paseo Senior Apartments for their prayers, friendship and kindness to their Dad.
